6 days Rwanda primates and birds

The tour takes you to Nyungwe Forest Park in the South West of Rwanda and also visit cultural and heritage sites including the palace of former king of Rwanda in Nyanza Nyanza and the Museum in Butare. This is a scheduled safari which departs twice a month every first Thursday and third Thursday of the month

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali

Upon your arrival at Kigali International Airport, you’ll be greeted and transferred to your accommodation in Kigali. The first day is meant for relaxation and preparation for the upcoming adventure. Take it easy and settle into your surroundings as you anticipate the experiences that lie ahead.

Day 2: Journey to Nyungwe Forest Park

The morning of Day 2 marks the beginning of your journey to Nyungwe Forest Park, situated in the southwest of Rwanda. A scenic drive that takes approximately 6 hours will bring you to this sprawling forest that covers over 10,000 square kilometers.

Once you arrive, check into your accommodation in Nyungwe and, if time allows, take a leisurely afternoon walk or engage in an optional guided nature walk.

Day 3: Encounter with Chimpanzees

An early start awaits you on Day 3 as you embark on a thrilling chimpanzee trek in Nyungwe Forest Park. The forest is home to these fascinating primates, and the trek provides a unique opportunity to observe them in their natural habitat. Following the adventure, visit the Uwinka Visitor Center to gain more insights into the park’s biodiversity.

The evening is yours to relax and reflect on the day’s wildlife encounters.

Day 4: Colobus Monkeys and Bird Watching

After breakfast, Day 4 brings another exciting trek, this time in search of colobus monkeys. Nyungwe Forest is known for its diverse primate population, and this trek offers a chance to witness the agile and acrobatic colobus monkeys. In the afternoon, immerse yourself in the rich birdlife of the region with a bird-watching session, exploring the park’s trails and keeping an eye out for some of its 300 recorded bird species.

Day 5: Cultural Exploration in Nyanza and Butare

Day 5 takes you on a cultural journey. In the morning, depart for Nyanza and visit the Royal Palace, once the residence of the former king of Rwanda. Continue to Butare and explore the National Museum, gaining insights into the country’s history and heritage. Return to Nyungwe for a final evening amid the forest’s serene atmosphere.

Day 6: Departure with Optional Stops

As your unforgettable journey comes to an end, enjoy a leisurely breakfast and check out from your accommodation.
